Court Series, 2018
Grounded in experimental athletics, Court Series, stems from personal exploration of New York City public parks. It is a full throttle investigation, not limited to a specific medium. It is a remixed, rearranged and reimagined environment that explores formal qualities and psychological complexities of athletics in urban environments and the human relationships that form in these spaces.
Court Series exists both physically and theoretically. The court, therefore symbolizes one entering a state that disregards democracy (the socially accepted way of governing) and entering a terra nullius (the thought that it is anyone’s). Court Series forms a new ecology for urban athletic arenas and brings new enchantment and awareness to existing urban environments through a visually playful and an encourage introspection.
Special thanks to New York based dancer, Paris Cullen, for her performances!
